Thermal Imaging

All Home Scientific Inspections Include Free Thermal Imaging
All home inspections include a complimentary thermal imaging analysis.  While other firms charge extra for this service we believe the benefit is too great to be optional and should be performed with every inspection.

What is Infrared Thermal Imaging?
Thermal imaging cameras detect infrared light which signifies very slight temperature differences in an area or object.  In essence, thermal imaging cameras take pictures of heat rather than light.  These heat differences are converted into colors with each color representing a different temperature.  First developed by the defense department, thermal imaging has been used for numerous applications including airport screenings to identify people with high fevers during contagious flu outbreaks and night vision goggles.

How does Thermal Imaging Improve Home Inspections?

Utilizing infrared technology in home inspections can reveal problems that are not visible to the human eye and would most likely go undetected.  If not repaired they lead to higher energy costs and costly repairs.

During a home inspection thermal imaging can detect

▪ roof leaks
▪ poorly installed or missing insulation
▪ leaky or damaged air conditioning
▪ overheating electrical circuit breakers
▪ plumbing leaks
▪ air infiltration around doors and windows

Home Scientific infrared thermal imaging scans include

▪ exterior walls
▪ walls that bridge attic spaces
▪ windows and exterior doors
▪ ceilings
▪ visible and accessible ductwork
▪ electrical service and sub-panels
▪ and any other area where a moisture, heat or insulation deficiency is suspected
